Data Principal

The individual to whom personal data relates under the DPDPA.

A Data Principal is the person whose personal data is being processed — the individual the data is about. Data Principals have rights including access to their data, correction, erasure, and the ability to raise grievances and nominate others. Honouring these rights depends on knowing where a person's data lives — which is why data discovery underpins rights-fulfilment.
